According to the latest data from the National Health Insurance Administration, up to now, a total of 39.885 billion drug traceability codes have been collected to help combat the “reflux drug” problem in the pharmaceutical sector. “Reflux drugs” refer to the recycling of drugs that have left the regular pharmaceutical circulation chain and re-entered the market through illegal channels. They often have expired or improper storage conditions, which seriously threaten the safety of the public, damage the safety of health insurance funds, and disrupt the order of the drug market. In March 2025, the National Health Insurance Administration and relevant departments issued the “Notice on Strengthening the Collection and Application of Drug Traceability Codes in the Field of Medical Insurance and Work Injury Insurance”, which clearly will strengthen the supervision and application of drug traceability codes, focus on building a big data supervision model, and crack down on illegal acts such as drug swapping and drug reselling.
