On May 20, at the 121st meeting of the 3GPP Wireless Access Network Working Group 1 held in Malta, Xu Xiaodong, chief expert at the China Mobile Group level, was elected chairman of the working group. This is the first time in 27 years since 3GPP was founded that a representative of a Chinese company has assumed the position of Chairman of RAN 1. 3GPP is one of the most important standardization organizations in the global mobile communication field, and is also the birthplace of successive mobile communication standards. Among them, RAN 1 occupies a central position in the 3GPP standard system, and its technical specifications directly determine the underlying technology and performance boundaries of mobile communication. 3GPP is expected to complete the first version of the 6G international standard specification in 2029. Xu Xiaodong will host the full RAN1 6G standard development meeting to further promote the 6G wireless technology standard specification development process.
