A LastPass US LP customer said in a US federal lawsuit that thieves stole $200,000 in cryptocurrency due to the password manager's negligence leading to a data breach. The anonymous plaintiff stated that he had saved a seed phrase for an Ethereum self-hosted wallet with LastPass to be used to regenerate the wallet if the wallet's hardware device was lost or stolen. However, according to a lawsuit filed with the US District Court for the Western District of Washington on Thursday, the plaintiff was not notified about the password manager's 2022 data security breach. According to the complaint, the local police department said that the LastPass data breach may have been the cause of the theft that occurred in February 2024.
