The Zhitong Finance App learned that data from Counterpoint Research shows that in May of this year, Apple (AAPL.US) iPhone sales in China rose to the top of the list. Global sales in April and May increased 15% year-on-year. This is the company's best performance in two months since the pandemic. According to preliminary data from Counterpoint, the increase in global sales is mainly driven by the resumption of growth in Apple's two largest markets, China and the US.

Counterpoint said the company has benefited in part from some tariff evasion while also achieving double-digit growth in the Japanese, Indian and Middle Eastern markets. Ivan Lam, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, said: “Looking at the iPhone's performance in the second quarter so far, the improvement or deterioration of the market depends on two factors — the US and China,” said Ivan Lam, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research.

According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology, in April of this year, shipments of foreign-owned brand mobile phones in the Chinese market increased slightly from 3.5 million units in the same period last year to 3.52 million units.

Apple faces increasing competition from local rivals in China, and has to maintain competitiveness by cutting prices. In May, several e-commerce platforms in China offered price reductions of up to 2,530 yuan (about 351 US dollars) for the latest iPhone 16.
