According to people familiar with the matter, Tencent Holdings is exploring the possibility of acquiring South Korean game company Nexon. People familiar with the matter said that Tencent approached the relatives of Kim Jung-ju, the late founder of Nexon, to discuss the possibility of an acquisition. They claim that Kim Jung-ju's family has been communicating with advisors to evaluate various options. According to Nexon's interim report, Kim's relatives held shares through the family investment company NXC Corp. As of June 30, the latter, along with its subsidiary NXMH BV, held 44.4% of Nexon's shares. Kim's wife and daughter hold approximately 67.6% of NXC's shares. People familiar with the matter said that NXC's attitude towards selling Nexon shares is unclear, and whether Tencent can reach a deal is unknown. They also added that the exact structure of the deal will take has yet to be finalized. Representatives for Tencent did not respond to requests for comment, and Nexon and NXC declined to comment.
