A Ro-Ro ship departing from a Chinese port and carrying more than 3,000 cars caught fire in the Pacific Ocean, drawing attention recently. Oriental Zodiac Maritime confirmed that all 22 crew members aboard the “Morning Midas” had no injuries. The ship had been abandoned and safely transferred. To learn more about the cause of the accident and product information, on June 5, the reporter visited the Shanghai headquarters of SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd. It was confirmed that the company is the charterer of the “Morning Midas” ship and is responsible for the cargo loading plan. The ship owner is responsible for the crew staffing and operation management of the ship. “We are currently awaiting news from the shipowner, and the business team is also verifying the relevant information at the same time.” The director of Anji Logistics told reporters that if accurate information is obtained, the company will further disclose it to the public. Anji Logistics staff explained that until now, Anji Logistics had never had an incident similar to a car carrier fire. Furthermore, since the cause of the accident is currently unclear, and the ship accident claim process is complicated, involving accident investigation, loss assessment, and liability determination, it is expected that it will take a long time. At the same time, based on the principle of customer information confidentiality, the number, model, and affiliated company information involved in this incident cannot be disclosed to the public for the time being.
