Zynex, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:ZYXI) Shares Bounce 41% But Its Business Still Trails The Industry

Simply Wall St·05/31/2025 12:39:17
Listen to the news

Zynex, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZYXI) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 41% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Still, the 30-day jump doesn't change the fact that longer term shareholders have seen their stock decimated by the 77% share price drop in the last twelve months.

Although its price has surged higher, Zynex's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x might still make it look like a strong buy right now compared to the wider Medical Equipment industry in the United States, where around half of the companies have P/S ratios above 2.8x and even P/S above 7x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so limited.

What Does Zynex's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Zynex could be doing better as its revenue has been going backwards lately while most other companies have been seeing positive revenue growth. The P/S ratio is probably low because investors think this poor revenue performance isn't going to get any better. If this is the case, then existing shareholders will probably struggle to get excited about the future direction of the share price.

How Is Zynex's Revenue Growth Trending?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as depressed as Zynex's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry decidedly.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 8.6%. Regardless, revenue has managed to lift by a handy 26% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the earlier period of growth. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would be roughly satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 3.4% per year as estimated by the three analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially lower than the 10% per annum growth forecast for the broader industry.

In light of this, it's understandable that Zynex's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.

The Key Takeaway

Zynex's recent share price jump still sees fails to bring its P/S alongside the industry median. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

We've established that Zynex maintains its low P/S on the weakness of its forecast growth being lower than the wider industry, as expected. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises. It's hard to see the share price rising strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
