Angola's National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Administration issued a statement on the 20th saying that a fire broke out in the early morning of the same day on an offshore oil platform located in the waters off Cabinda province in northern Angola, injuring 17 people, 4 of whom are in serious condition. The statement said that the fire occurred at around 3 o'clock local time. All the injured have been taken to the mainland for treatment, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. The platform stopped production operations on May 1, and was in the routine annual maintenance phase when the fire broke out. According to reports, the offshore oil platform involved in the accident is located in block 14 of the Cabinda Sea and is operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, a subsidiary of US Chevron.
