Dallas Federal Reserve Bank Governor Lorie Logan said that the US central bank should consider strengthening mechanisms to more effectively prevent interest rates in the money market from soaring when the market is under pressure. In a speech prepared for the Atlanta Federal Reserve's 2025 financial markets conference, Logan once again called for encouraging more banks to use discount windows and centralize the operation of permanent repurchase instruments. On the same day, she will also host a panel discussion on the role of non-banking institutions in the US Treasury bonds and money market. Logan also pointed out that the Federal Reserve should focus on broader market interest rates, not just federal funds rates. “In my opinion, interest rate control is more than just keeping the federal funds rate within the target range,” she said.
