The Zhitong Finance App learned that on May 16, the Hong Kong Airport Authority announced Hong Kong International Airport's air traffic figures for April 2025. During the Easter holidays, the airport received about 197,000 passengers on April 20, which was the peak of passenger traffic in a single day after the outbreak. During the month, the airport's passenger traffic reached 5.19 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.2%. Thanks to the long Easter holiday that began in mid-April, passenger traffic increased strongly, and passenger traffic in all categories increased. The number of aircraft take-off and landing was 32,675, an increase of 12.5% over the previous year.
Driven by a 13.9% increase in transit cargo volume, the overall freight volume in April increased 2.6% from the same month last year to 404,000 tonnes. Among them, freight volume to Europe and the Middle East continued to be the main driving force for the rise, showing the most obvious upward trend during the period.
In the first four months of this year, passenger traffic and aircraft take-off and landing volume jumped 17.0% and 11.6% year-on-year to 19.8 million passengers and 128,650 flights. Freight volume recorded a year-on-year increase of 3.0% to 1.57 million tonnes.
In the past 12 months, passenger traffic increased 20.8% year-on-year to 55.9 million passengers; aircraft take-off and landing increased 18.8% to 376,670 flights; while cargo volume increased 9.3% to 4.98 million metric tons.
In addition, a number of airlines have added new routes to further expand Hong Kong International Airport's air traffic network. During the month, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express and Vietnam Airlines will launch routes to Dallas in the US; Komatsu and Ishigaki in Japan; and Nha Trang, Vietnam, respectively.
