The Zhitong Finance App learned that global streaming giant Netflix (NFLX.US) recently made major revisions to its platform, aiming to solve users' “choice difficulties” through a more clear interface design and intelligent recommendation system, while enhancing exposure to emerging content categories such as games and sports.

According to information, the new TV homepage has abandoned the intensive layout of the past and adopted an extremely simplified layout. Core changes include adding a game-related promotion section to the homepage to push live event announcements (such as e-sports events) in real time, updates on game adaptations, and linking with Netflix's game business in recent years.

In addition, Netflix relies on machine learning algorithms to dynamically refresh the program recommendation module and adds an award logo function — when users browse the series, the system will actively mark whether the work has been nominated for authoritative awards such as Emmys and Golden Globes to assist decision-making with professional endorsements. Finally, by reducing redundant entrances and optimizing the level of information, the company solved the “cluttered homepage” pain points reported by users, and improved navigation efficiency.

Over the past few years, Netflix has expanded the range of programs it offers, investing billions of dollars in video games and live events such as the National Football League and wrestling. This revision is seen as a key step in its transformation from a “pure film and television platform” to a “comprehensive entertainment platform.”

Netflix's Chief Product Officer Eunice Kim emphasized at the press conference: “The new interface must simultaneously carry multiple content such as movies, series, games, live sports, etc., and maintain Netflix's consistent smooth experience.” It is worth mentioning that as a pioneer in AI applications in the streaming media industry, Netflix's current upgrade further deepens technology penetration.

Overall, under the siege of competitors such as Disney+ and HBO Max, Netflix's revision reflects a new trend in the streaming media industry: when the user base reaches the ceiling, increasing the value of a single user through refined operations is the key to breaking the game. This strategy adjustment may trigger the industry to follow suit and push streaming competition from a “content arms race” to an “experiential innovation competition.”
