P&G Gillette has filed a master plan with Boston city officials for its 31-acre South Boston campus. The Boston Globe reported that it’s the latest milestone in the company’s efforts to redo its two Massachusetts sites, as it pulls its manufacturing work out of South Boston to make way for a 20-building redevelopment.

The 5.7-million-square-foot development in South Boston would include 1,800 housing units across nine buildings, totaling 1.7 million square feet, and another 3.5 million square feet of commercial space for offices and labs along with 200,000 square feet of shops and restaurants and 250,000 square feet of hotel space. The project could take a decade or more to fully build out, the Globe reported.

“We’ve long been proud of our heritage here in Massachusetts,” said Kara Buckley, VP of community affairs at Gillette. “We’re excited about the legacy we could leave behind through this plan.”
