According to Voice of the Greater Bay Area, the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council held a meeting today. At the meeting, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Chairman of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, Chan Mei-po, listened to the opinions of the logistics industry on the abusive application of tariffs by the United States, including measures to further raise so-called reciprocal tariffs, and discussed how to deal with them together. Chen Meibao said that the US announced earlier that it would overcharge so-called equal tariffs on different trading partners, ignoring the fact that Hong Kong is a separate customs zone under the Basic Law and that it has never set tariffs as a free port. She said that at today's conference, she had in-depth and honest exchanges with the industry. Although the industry is concerned about the continuing uncertain trade pattern, it is still getting stronger and stronger, and is actively discussing countermeasures. Chen Meibao stressed that the Transport and Logistics Bureau will unite with the industry to jointly address the challenges brought to Hong Kong and the industry with firm will and strong confidence. The Transport and Logistics Bureau will play a leading role to provide more specific guidance on the development of the industry and assist the industry in line with market transformation. The Transport and Logistics Bureau will lead Hong Kong logistics companies to respond according to five major strategies, including: developing new markets; strengthening collaboration with ports in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; exempting some goods from import and export licensing requirements to attract more transit goods; deepening cooperation with international ports and ships; and expanding shipping and aviation networks to find new growth points for Hong Kong's logistics industry and consolidate and enhance Hong Kong's position and competitiveness as an international shipping center, international aviation hub and international logistics hub. At the same time, the Transport and Logistics Bureau will also collaborate with other relevant government departments, including the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, to implement more trade facilitation measures such as the expansion of the Cross-border One-Lock Scheme, the Free Trade Agreement Transit Cargo Facilitation Scheme, and the Exclusive Express Line for Fresh Air and Land Products to enhance Hong Kong's freight transit hub function.
