UAE Contains Oil Leakage from Tanker Incident

06:11 AM EST, 11/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The United Arab Emirates stopped the oil spill and confirmed that pollution from the Gem No. 2 tanker incident declined significantly, the WAM news agency reported on Oct. 30, citing a statement from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. The Emirati environmental regulatory body said that beaches and other areas have been closed to help it finalize its cleanup operations, field surveys, as well as marine pollution monitoring for the regions the oil leakage affected. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure noted that it is currently reviewing how to safely handle the structure after it repaired portions of the ship's sections and systems.
