If you had hesitated over NAVER in late October 2025, watching analysts debate whether AI-heavy spending would pay off or just weigh on margins, the choice might feel different today. For NAVER shareholders, the loss over the past year was 34.9%, including dividends. With Q2 2026 results showing higher revenue and profit on record, the question is simple: Which starting assumption about regulation, AI costs, or demographics most needed a harder look back then?

The shares cost ₩256,500 at the start of the period, and NAVER investors had to choose which story about AI, regulation, and user trends felt more realistic.
On the optimistic side, one narrative pointed to a fair value of ₩293,703, a price implied by assumptions that NAVER could grow revenue 9.3% a year while running at a 15.9% profit margin and a 22.7x future P/E.
The cautious view put fair value at ₩203,333 and focused on the risk that rising compliance costs and heavy AI and cloud spending would curb earnings and strain long term profitability.
The cleanest datapoint was simple. NAVER reported Q2 2026 revenue of ₩3,388,755 million and net income of ₩698,620 million, up from ₩2,915,085 million and ₩488,781 million in Q2 2025, with net margin widening from 16.8% to 20.6%. That profitability shift supported more of the optimistic case than the cautious one, although only over a single quarter.
The main lesson is about which assumption you test first. When a thesis hinges on AI and compliance costs, focus on reported operating margin and net margin a year later and see which story they actually line up with.
NAVER now trades at ₩172,300, after the share price fell 34.9% over the past year. The selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price and rests on AI driven products, commerce apps, payments and global C2C platforms doing more heavy lifting than the market is currently crediting.
The key fork in the road is simple. A buyer today would need to believe NAVER’s AI, commerce and payments spending turns into higher quality ad revenue, stronger GMV and broader payment usage that more than absorbs the higher infrastructure and content costs.
"The current valuation implies that NAVER's share price does not fully reflect the contribution of AI-driven advertising growth, expanding commerce and logistics engagement, scaling global C2C platforms, and growing Naver Pay volumes."
