Linde stock closed at US$514.24 on Friday, up 2.2%, as investors digested fresh Q3 2026 earnings. On the surface that price reaction looks like a simple relief rally. The real story is that the industrial gases heavyweight just posted record quarterly revenue of US$9.4b alongside a net profit of US$1.7b, even as net profit margin over the last year eased to 19.3% from 21.2%.
Short term traders are reacting to a strong print. Longer term holders are weighing that softer margin trend against a premium P/E and a balance sheet carrying meaningful debt.

Linde took a $425M charge and put Lincare under the CFO. Ask Charlie what Linde’s restructuring says about Lincare’s future.
The bullish story hinges on Linde turning its project pipeline in semiconductors, space and clean energy into richer, longer term earnings streams.
"The earlier focus on commercial space, electronics and clean hydrogen is now supported by double digit space related growth contributing to manufacturing. The company has a stated path to more than US$1b of space revenue by 2030 and large hydrogen and CCS projects, which together can add higher value revenue streams and support margin mix."
Q3 shows progress but not a full victory lap. Electronics grew 15% with about US$2b of projects under construction and record revenue of US$9.4b. Yet net profit margin over the last year eased from 21.2% to 19.3%, so mix uplift is not offsetting broader pressure yet.
The bear case focuses on weak assets and execution risk eating into the industrial gases story.
"The U.S. homecare business continues to weigh on Americas margins, with management quantifying a quarterly drag of around US$40 million, and if this area is not improved, reshaped or exited, it could keep regional margins below potential and limit how much group EPS benefits from record sales and project start ups."
Q3 actions largely acknowledge this concern. Management booked a US$425m restructuring charge, shifted Lincare into Global Other under the CFO and flagged payback only by the second half of 2027. Group margins are softer and net income excluding extra items fell 12.3%, so the drag is still visible.
