If you had backed KB Financial Group a year ago, the outcome might prompt a second look at what was on the table back then. Holding KB Financial Group over the past year would have returned 44.7%, including dividends. Analysts were split between a digital expansion story and worries about aging demographics and fintech rivals. If that decision on 16 October 2025 was in front of you again today, which side of that split would feel more convincing?
KB Financial Group has already moved. See which of 189 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.
The shares cost ₩113,500 at the start of the period, and KB Financial Group sat between two sharply different stories about where the business could head next.
The bullish narrative argued that accelerated digital adoption and overseas expansion would pay off. Its Fair Value was put at ₩140,977, a kind of implied price if those assumptions played out, built on revenue growth of 9.0% a year and a future P/E of 9.3x.
The bearish view focused on South Korea's aging population and fintech rivals compressing profitability. That storyline pointed to a Fair Value of ₩92,200, with a key concern that profit margins could shrink toward 29.0% over three years even if revenue still increased.
Q2 2026 put real numbers behind both storylines for KB Financial Group. Total revenue moved from ₩3,882,667m in Q2 2025 to ₩4,602,035m in Q2 2026 and net income also rose, which supported the optimistic case that the business could scale. The net margin slipped from 43.4% to 42.4%, which echoed the cautious view about pressure on profitability. The evidence cut both ways.
The useful takeaway is simple. When a thesis hinges on profitability resilience, do not just check whether earnings grew. Track net margin alongside revenue in each report and see whether the spread moves toward or away from the story you are betting on.
KB Financial Group trades at ₩160,000 today, and the selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above that level. The current story leans less on digital expansion and more on fee income, capital-markets earnings and capital return discipline.
The question for a buyer now is whether disciplined capital returns at a CET1 ratio around 13% to 13.5% can keep supporting group ROE.
"The updated thesis on KB Financial Group shifts the focus from digital expansion and overseas growth to a view driven more by earnings quality, centering on fee and capital-market-linked income, disciplined capital returns, and tighter cost and risk control, while keeping the overall constructive stance on the group intact."

In some markets, a digital-only platform already runs current accounts, cards and loans without branches. Everything lives inside one app.
That setup strips out a lot of physical cost. It relies on software and automation to handle huge volumes of small decisions in real time.
With that approach, every extra customer can matter less for expense growth than for data. The open question is how far that model can scale.
