Robosense Technology Fell 61% While Sales Rose

Robosense Technology reported surging LiDAR unit volumes and strong robotics demand in 2026, yet the share price moved in the opposite direction. Investors who held Robosense Technology from the start of the year are down 60.9%, including dividends. If you had committed fresh capital on 1 January, that gap between business momentum and capital loss would feel stark. With revenue rising but net margin sliding deeper into loss, what exactly was visible before things turned out this way?

On Simply Wall St, a Narrative is an investor's thesis written down: the reasoning, plus the numbers it rests on. Run those numbers and you get an estimated Fair Value.

This theme extends beyond Robosense Technology. See which of 91 robotics and automation stocks may still merit a closer look.

The Two Stories Investors Had To Weigh On Robosense Technology

The shares cost HK$36.6 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Robosense Technology then had two very different stories to choose between.

On the optimistic side, the bullish Narrative put Fair Value at HK$47.45, about 30% above the start price. It leaned on an assumption of revenue growth at 51.5% a year and profit margins reaching 13.5%, helped by robotics and smart city LiDAR, plus in house SOC chips that were expected to support better gross margins.

The cautious view set Fair Value at HK$34.07, or 7% below the start price. That bearish case still allowed for 40.4% annual revenue growth and a 3.8% profit margin, yet focused on declining automotive LiDAR sales, price erosion across ADAS and robotics, and the risk that high R&D spending and customer concentration would keep earnings fragile.

What The Results Changed For Robosense Technology

Robosense Technology reported H1 2026 LiDAR volumes of 719,200 units, with robotics shipments rising very sharply and supported by new SPAD SoC chipsets. That aligned with the optimistic case on demand and product execution. Revenue increased from C¥455.365m in Q2 2025 to C¥560.999m in Q2 2026, yet the business still posted a deeper loss and a net margin that fell from -11.3% to -17.3%. As a result, the anticipated progress on profitability in the bullish story was not confirmed. Overall, the evidence pointed in both positive and negative directions.

The key assumption tested was that rapid volume gains and new chips would improve earnings quality. For any other growth hardware stock, it is worth checking whether rising unit sales and new platforms translate into a less negative net margin and smaller losses, rather than only appearing as higher revenue.

What Robosense Technology’s Lower Price Now Asks You To Believe

Robosense Technology now trades at HK$14.6, with the year to date return from the start of the year at a loss of 60.9%. The selected Narrative still places Fair Value above that level, based on a chip-led and robotics-heavy route to better earnings quality.

That view effectively assumes a buyer today believes Robosense Technology can turn strong robotics LiDAR shipments and SPAD SoC scale into sustained, profitable volume despite pressure on selling prices.

"Bullish analysts expect RoboSense Technology to use its proprietary SPAD-SoC chips and higher production scale to support a business that can earn materially stronger gross margins than many LiDAR peers over time. The main thing that has to go right is that RoboSense Technology converts its strong robotics LiDAR shipment growth and broad OEM design wins into sustained, profitable volume across both ADAS and robotics despite ongoing pressure on average selling prices."
