07:59 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with GSK's statement) GSK (GSK.L) will reportedly lay off 1,217 staff at its locations in Belgium as it starts the Renault Law procedure, according to a Wednesday report by Belgian newspaper L'Echo. Negotiations with unions will start imminently to help decrease the number of job cuts as much as possible at the pharmaceutical group, the report said. A GSK spokesperson told MT Newswires the changes in Belgium are part of a three-year global program announced earlier in 2026 to simplify its organization and redirect capital and resources toward late-stage drug and vaccine candidates and research and development. "This is designed to drive strong operational performance and shareholder returns over the next five years, delivering near and long-term growth and much-needed new treatments for patients," the spokesperson added.
