07:10 AM EDT, 10/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Emirati airline flydubai's co-pilot tried to "carry out a terrorist act" on flight FZ1073 to Tel Aviv from Dubai, Bloomberg News reported Oct. 3, citing United Arab Emirates federal prosecutor Hamad Al Shamsi. A UAE investigation showed that the co-pilot attacked the pilot Smit Machchhar with a crash ax to try to take over the plane. Citing three people with knowledge of the matter, the Associated Press on Saturday named the attacker as Hamam al-Hammami from Oman. The investigation has yet to uncover the intention behind the attack and any involved parties.
