Alternative asset manager Investcorp has raised $1.22 billion for its second North American private equity fund, exceeding its $1.1 billion target as private equity firms navigate a more challenging fundraising environment.

The capital came from institutional investors across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the firm revealed in a press release. The fund will target middle-market companies in the U.S. and Canada with earnings of $10 million to $50 million, focusing on business and professional services as well as commercial services.

Investcorp closed its North American Private Equity Fund II, giving the firm additional capital to pursue deals despite a tougher backdrop for private equity fundraising. The fund’s close also represents an increase from the firm’s first North American private equity vehicle, which launched in 2021.

The firm said co-investments will remain an important part of the strategy. Investors in the first fund committed more than $1 billion to fee-free co-investment opportunities.

Two Investments Already Underway

Fund II has already been deployed across two platform investments: Guardian Fire Services, a Nashville-based fire protection company, and Berger Financial Group, a financial services firm based in Plymouth, Minnesota.

Investcorp completed its investment in Guardian in December 2025 and invested in Berger in July. Guardian has since expanded through two add-on acquisitions, Midwest Protection Services and Houston Fire & Safety, the firm said.

The fundraising comes as private equity managers contend with a difficult capital-raising environment, with investors facing pressure from elevated distribution constraints and a backlog of portfolio companies awaiting exits.

Investcorp also recently hired Dale O’Connell to lead investor relations and fundraising for its North American private equity business from New York. O’Connell previously served as a managing director at Palladium Equity Partners, where she held similar responsibilities.

AI Push Across Portfolio

Investcorp’s Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of North American Private Equity, co-head Nicky McGrane said Investcorp plans to add internal resources focused on value creation and bring artificial intelligence capabilities to its portfolio companies.

He added that the firm sees an opportunity to identify established companies in its core sectors and incorporate AI capabilities into their operations, potentially creating additional avenues for growth.

Investcorp’s North American private equity team has invested in the region for more than four decades and completed more than 75 middle-market investments, representing over $25 billion in transaction value.

The firm manages $64 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026. Its platform spans private equity, credit, real assets and liquid alternatives, with operations across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
