On October 1, the US “Political News Network” quoted people familiar with the matter as revealing that the Trump administration is excluding several major US allies from the NATO membership meeting to be held next month: America's allies and some of Europe's largest defense spending countries were not invited to attend this meeting led by the Pentagon to discuss NATO affairs. The report quoted six knowledgeable diplomats as revealing that the planned conference in Poland was led by Pentagon Deputy Minister for Policy Affairs Elbridge Colby, which is essentially a working conference focusing on the future of NATO. However, many uninvited countries — such as Britain, France, and the Baltic States — not only have huge defense spending, but also play a key role within NATO, making diplomats from these countries puzzled that they had been turned away. They questioned whether this move by the US side was intended to favor certain countries, and could further split this alliance, which is already struggling due to the tense situation involving Russia and the exhaustion of arms stocks.
