The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced today (September 30) that as of August 30, 2026, the total assets of the Exchange Fund were HK$435.4 billion, a decrease of HK$68.3 billion from the end of July 2026, including a decrease of HK$68 billion in foreign currency assets and a decrease of HK$300 million in Hong Kong dollar assets. Foreign currency assets declined mainly due to withdrawals from fiscal reserves. The decline in Hong Kong dollar assets is mainly due to the revaluation of Hong Kong stocks at market prices.

According to the accounts of the Hong Kong Currency Board, the monetary base at the end of August 2026 was HK$2,080.2 billion, an increase of HK$100 million over the end of July 2026, or 0.01%. The increase in the monetary base was mainly due to amortization of issued Exchange Fund notes and bonds, but the increase was partially offset by a decrease in the total amount of debt certificates.

Total supported assets increased by HK$3.2 billion to HK$2,329.9 billion at the end of August 2026, an increase of 0.14%. The increase in supporting assets was mainly due to interest income from investments, but the increase was partially offset by the redemption of debt certificates and the revaluation of investments at market prices. The support ratio rose from 111.86% at the end of July 2026 to 112.00% at the end of August 2026.
