US Auto Safety Regulator Closes Preliminary Probe Into Underhood Fires in Stellantis Jeep Vehicles

06:10 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, closed its preliminary evaluation into allegations of underhood fires in Stellantis (STLAM.MI, STLAP.PA) Jeep vehicles, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the auto safety regulator. The recall of 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles in June 2026 addressed the vehicles and conditions ⁠examined in the probe. NHTSA opened the evaluation in September 2024 following reports of engine compartment fires in model year 2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles. The European automaker did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
