The major averages are lower, with the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY) down 0.81% and the Invesco QQQ Trust, Series 1 (NASDAQ:QQQ) 1.53%, while the State Street SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust (NYSE:DIA) is down 0.57% and the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (NYSE:IWM) 0.84%. Five of the eleven sectors outpace the S&P 500.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) is up 1.43%, ExxonMobil Holdings Corp (NYSE:XOM) 1.27% and EOG Resources Inc (NYSE:EOG) 0.49%.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, Procter & Gamble Co (NYSE:PG) is up 1.43%, Walmart Inc (NASDAQ:WMT) 1.02% and Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) 0.70%.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) is up 0.74%, Eli Lilly and Co (NYSE:LLY) 0.51% and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) 0.39%.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is down 3.41%, Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) 1.36% and McDonald’s Corp (NYSE:MCD) 0.25%.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) is down 4.37%, Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) 1.83% and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) 1.01%.
Among the sector’s large-cap names, Oracle Corp (NYSE:ORCL) is down 3.34%, Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) 1.93% and Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) 1.18%.
The 2.25-point spread between Energy and Technology is around half again as large as the biggest move among the major averages, which are down between 0.57% and 1.53%. The major averages are lower, masking a session where leadership is concentrated in Energy, Consumer Staples and Health Care. Defensives are holding up better — Consumer Staples and Health Care rank second and third, while Real Estate ranks fourth — which gives the session a rotational look.
