Key Points

  • Venice AI is a decentralized, privacy-oriented alternative to other generative AI platforms.

  • Its native Venice Token is soaring as it gains more users.

Venice Token (CRYPTO: VVV), the native token of the Venice AI generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform, has skyrocketed nearly 1,800% this year. Let's see why this little token is attracting so much attention as the market's top cryptocurrencies remain far below their all-time highs.

What is Venice Token?

Venice AI is a decentralized, privacy-first generative AI platform co-founded by Erik Vorhees, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur and prominent privacy advocate. Vorhees promotes Venice AI as an "anti-ChatGPT" alternative that keeps its users' data private and decentralized. Venice AI also provides uncensored access to over 200 open-source foundational models for generating text, images, and code, without any censorship or safety filters.

This July, Venice AI raised $65 million in a Series A funding round at a $1 billion valuation. At the time, it said it had 3.5 million registered users and processed 1.3 million tokens each month.

Venice Token, built on Ethereum's (CRYPTO: ETH) Base Layer 2 Network, primarily serves as an access key and utility token for Venice AI. Its users stake the token to unlock higher platform tiers (such as Venice Pro) and secure a daily share of the network's AI inference capacity without incurring recurring fiat-based subscription fees. It's staked to mint another token, DIEM (CRYPTO: DIEM), which functions as Venice AI's stable, tradable compute-credit unit.

Venice AI uses a portion of its subscription revenue to constantly buy back and burn its Venice tokens. That pressure increases its scarcity and market value.

Venice AI has been expanding its platform with new features, including stablecoin integrations for autonomous AI agents. That expansion could pull more external developers and AI agents to its platform, which would boost the value of its Venice Token and DIEM cryptocurrencies.

Could Venice Token soar even higher?

Venice Token's value will continue to rise if Venice AI pulls more privacy-minded users away from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other generative AI platforms. But it's still tiny compared to those market-leading platforms. ChatGPT and Gemini each have about a billion users, while Claude -- which targets enterprise customers -- has more than 220 million monthly active users.

If Venice AI can't break out of its niche or faces tougher competition from similar decentralized generative AI platforms, Venice Token could quickly surrender its recent gains. The vast majority of its tokens are also still held by a few whales (large investors), and some of its past gains were driven by leveraged liquidations rather than a growing interest in the token. So while Venice Token will be an interesting token to watch this year, I wouldn't chase its recent rally.
