While it’s been a great week for Jerash Holdings (US), Inc. (NASDAQ:JRSH) shareholders after stock gained 12%, company insiders might have missed out on those gains after selling stock earlier this year. Had they waited, they might have been able to sell their stock at much higher prices and thereby received a better value on their investment.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Head of Marketing & Chairman, Tsze Lun Ng, sold US$345k worth of shares at a price of US$3.07 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$5.74, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 14% of Tsze Lun Ng's holding.
