Iranian Foreign Minister Alagzi said that the agenda for tomorrow's meeting in Oman will focus on the new sea corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran will inform the participating countries of the details of the agreement reached with Oman and related route maps. Alagzi stressed that the agreement does not mean the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The prerequisite for Iran to re-open the strait is that the US must return and fulfill its commitments in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Alagzi also pointed out that Iran believes that the responsibility for maintaining regional security and stability lies entirely with the countries of the region themselves, and hopes that this consultation will lay the foundation for future dialogue on issues of common concern to the countries of the region. Earlier, Iran and Afghanistan had announced their intention to establish a temporary secure maritime corridor in the strait to be agreed upon by both parties, but Iran has repeatedly stated that the strait will remain closed until the core differences between the US and Iran are resolved.
