During the APEC Beijing Energy Conference Week, the judging results of the 7th APEC Energy Smart Community Initiative Best Practice Award were released, and the outstanding cases submitted by the Chinese side achieved two gold medals. After nearly half a year of collection, training and review work, the Chinese side selected a number of replicable and marketable integrated energy demonstration cases to participate in the evaluation. In the end, the “Henan Lankao Fulou Village Whole Village Source Network Load Storage Integration” project led by China Electric Power Investment Group Co., Ltd. won the gold medal in the low-carbon model town category; the “Beijing New Energy Vehicle Supercharging Network System Construction” project led by the Beijing Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Center won the gold medal in the smart transportation category. The two award-winning projects are based on different urban and rural scenarios, and focus on showcasing China's cutting-edge exploration and practical results in the fields of low-carbon technology and smart energy. The “Integrated Village Source Network and Cargo Storage in Fulou Village, Lankao, Henan” project realizes local production and local consumption of renewable energy in rural areas through the construction of distributed optical storage collaborative microgrids, providing a model of practice in China that can be learned from for energy inclusion and low carbon development in rural areas in the Asia-Pacific region. The “Beijing New Energy Vehicle Overcharging Network System Construction” project coordinates the balance between urban charging demand and grid carrying pressure, constructs an urban supercharging network system, and provides mature solutions for large-scale cities in the Asia-Pacific region to solve common problems such as efficient layout of charging facilities in limited spaces, coordination of policies and market resources, scale and standardization collaboration. A total of 74 projects from 16 economies including China, the United States, Australia, and Singapore participated in the selection for this year's ESCI Best Practice Awards. In the end, 10 projects from 5 economies including China, the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, and Chinese Taipei won awards. The ESCI Best Practice Award is the only award within the APEC Energy Working Group. It is selected every two years, and has been successfully held for seven sessions. In 2019, 2022, and 2024, the Chinese project won the 4th Smart Building Category 1 Gold and 1 Silver Award in the Smart Grid Category, the 5th Smart Transportation Category Gold Award and the Smart Building Category Silver Award, and the 6th Low Carbon Demonstration Town Category 1 Gold and 1 Silver Award respectively.
