Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that the company will unveil its long-delayed Roadster on Oct. 1, nearly a decade after teasing the next-generation sports car.
Tesla’s official account on X shared a graphic with the date and the caption “Go for launch.”
Musk later confirmed the news in a reply, writing, “New Tesla Roadster Unveil 10.01.”
The Information reported in August that Tesla was planning an unveiling as early as that month. According to the report, the event could feature a limited-edition Roadster equipped with cold-gas thrusters developed with Space Exploration Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:SPCX). The thrusters could potentially be demonstrated at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, Texas.
Tesla first revealed the Roadster in 2017, targeting 2020 deliveries. The launch has slipped repeatedly since. Reports indicate the car evolved from a Model S Plaid-based design into an all-new carbon-fiber hypercar.
The reveal follows Tesla’s rollout of driverless rides in its steering-wheel-free Cybercab in Austin last week, a vehicle Musk calls central to Tesla’s autonomous-driving ambitions.
Tesla has a market capitalization of $1.44 trillion, a 52-week high of $498.83 and a 52-week low of $297.38.
The large-cap automotive stock is down 18.74% year-to-date.
Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings indicate that Tesla stock is experiencing short-term upward movement along with medium and long-term consolidation.
