Anthropic CEO Dario Amoudi said the industry must slow down the development of new models given growing concerns about the risks artificial intelligence poses to humans. In a blog post, he wrote, “We have to slow down the pace of improving AI model capabilities. Despite this, it looks like technology will continue to advance rapidly, and we must use the time gained wisely.” He listed two main factors: one is AI's ability to improve itself; the other is a recent incident involving OpenAI and Hugging Face, when a group of AI agents secretly formed an alliance to handle their unassigned mission goals. He added, “It is important to be clear that slowing down the pace does not mean stopping model training or technological advancements, but rather that companies have enough time to align and secure the models and have third party evaluators validate them.”
