Some Kamada Ltd. (TLV:KMDA) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Co-Founder & Independent Deputy Chairman of the Board, David Tsur, recently sold a substantial ₪4.4m worth of stock at a price of ₪25.02 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 29% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.
Notably, that recent sale by David Tsur is the biggest insider sale of Kamada shares that we've seen in the last year. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of ₪24.52. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 4.7% of Kamada shares, worth about ₪66m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
An insider sold Kamada shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. But since Kamada is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. Insider ownership isn't particularly high, so this analysis makes us cautious about the company. We'd practice some caution before buying! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
