Recently, major breakthroughs have been made in joint research cruises on seafloor hydrothermal activities and resources in the Western Pacific Ocean carried out by Tsinghua University, the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology of the China Geological Survey, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Relying on self-developed equipment, the research team identified a new large-scale high-temperature active hydrothermal zone in the Western Pacific, and initially proved that it has the potential for large-scale polymetallic sulphide resources.
