Amazon has appointed banks to arrange for its initial issue of British pound bonds, and the transaction is expected to begin as soon as Wednesday. According to a person familiar with the matter, who did not wish to be named, Amazon plans to issue bonds with multiple maturities, ranging from 3 to 19 years. J.P. Morgan Chase, Barclays, HSBC Holdings, and Natwest Group Plc will be responsible for managing this offering. The online retailer first issued Eurobonds in March this year, making it the largest issuance of Euro-denominated corporate bonds in history; since then, it has also entered the Swiss franc bond market, issuing a record six matures at once. Overall, Amazon is the largest bond issuer among “hyperscale cloud service providers” in 2026, and has issued bonds equivalent to more than 92 billion US dollars during the year. Amazon's total debt is also the highest among these hyperscale cloud service providers, nearly double that of Microsoft. Amazon plans to invest $220 billion in capital expenditure this year, and CEO Andy Jassy said most of it will go to artificial intelligence. Given the scale and rapid pace of issuance of such bonds, investors are beginning to show fatigue. Demand for recently issued bonds has weakened, and in order to attract investors, credit spreads on issuance pricing have widened, thus driving up the cost of bond issuance and financing.
