Shares of Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE:TSN) are trading flat Friday morning, recovering from earlier session lows. The rebound follows the company’s decision to cut its full-year fiscal 2026 outlook for the second time in a month.
In an updated outlook issued late Thursday, Tyson Foods lowered its full-year fiscal 2026 revenue growth forecast to 1.5% to 2.0%, down from the 2.5% to 3.5% range communicated on Aug. 3.
The company also reduced its projected full-year adjusted operating income to a range of $1.85 billion to $2.05 billion, down from its previous target of $2.1 billion to $2.3 billion.
The downward revision stems from severe margin compression and inventory write-downs in Tyson’s Beef segment. Tyson expanded its projected full-year Beef operating loss to between $625 million and $775 million, citing historic U.S. cattle shortages and volatile livestock market valuations.
By contrast, performance in other segments remains relatively stable, with full-year adjusted operating income projected at $1.85 billion to $1.95 billion for Chicken and $200 million to $250 million for Pork.
Addressing the intensified pressures, Tyson Foods President and Chief Executive Officer Donnie King emphasized ongoing operational adjustments while navigating the cattle cycle:
“The Beef pressures that have intensified this quarter reflect industry-wide cattle-cycle dynamics that required decisive action,” King said. “As announced in August, we are restructuring our Beef network around three strategically located facilities in the central United States to create a more efficient and competitive footprint for the long term. We expect these actions to begin reducing operating cost pressures as we enter fiscal 2027.”
King added that the company’s multi-protein model helps cushion individual commodity shocks: “Our diversified, multi-protein portfolio helps us manage pressure from individual commodity cycles. We remain focused on the factors within our control: operational execution, brand investment, innovation and deeper strategic customer relationships.”
TSN Price Action: Tyson Foods shares were down 0.83% at $51.33 at the time of publication on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
