On September 4, the Ya'an Intermediate People's Court of Sichuan Province issued a public judgment in the first instance in the bribery case of Ning Jian, a former party group member and deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Transportation. Defendant Ning Jian was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of RMB 3 million yuan for taking bribes; the property seized by Ning Jian from taking bribes was recovered and handed over to the national treasury. The trial revealed that from 2010 to 2025, defendant Ning Jian used the convenience of positions as a member of the party group and deputy mayor of the Guang'an Municipal Government, member of the Standing Committee of the Leshan Municipal Committee, Secretary General of the United Front Work Department, member of the Standing Committee of the Yibin Municipal Committee, executive vice mayor of the municipal government, member of the party group and deputy director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Transportation, etc., to assist others in matters such as project contracting, fund disbursement, and position adjustments, and illegally accepted assets totaling more than RMB 31.8 million.
