An existing investor, the Anderson Horowitz Fund, revealed to other potential investors that Thinking Lab Machines, an artificial intelligence company headed by Mira Murati, the former chief technology officer of OpenAI, is negotiating a round of financing and plans to raise 5 to 60 billion US dollars, with a pre-investment valuation of at least 40 billion US dollars. The investment agency, which holds a board seat at Thinking Machines Lab, said it expects Nvidia to invest about half of the capital. The move will continue Nvidia's series of layouts to expand its influence within the open source AI developer community, including the $12.9 billion acquisition of open source model vendor Hugging Face. At present, it is unclear whether Nvidia's funding is the “impressive” investment that the chip company said in March would make to Thinking Machine Labs, but did not disclose the exact amount.
