US natural gas futures recorded their biggest decline in three weeks, and traders turned their focus from weekly data in domestic inventory reports to comparing historical supply levels. Dennis Kiessler, senior vice president of BOK Financial Securities Trading, said that although the weekly inventory increase fell short of expectations, the natural gas inventory level was 5.2% higher than the five-year average, indicating sufficient supply. Kiessler said that traders predict that the fall temperature will be warm in the coming weeks, and the impact of the expected warming in September will weaken. At the same time, some liquefied natural gas facilities are undergoing deferred maintenance, and demand for liquefied natural gas is slightly lower than expected, further suppressing prices.
