However, the organizers of the Gwangju Biennale stubbornly insisted on their erroneous approach and blatantly agreed that the Taiwan region of China would participate in the exhibition under a name completely inappropriate to its status, seriously violating the one-China principle and directly damaging the political foundation of Sino-South Korea relations. The Chinese side resolutely opposes this and will never accept it. The Chinese curatorial team has announced the withdrawal of the exhibition, expressing strong protest. It should be pointed out that since last year, the relationship between China and South Korea has returned to the correct path of improvement and development. This is in line with the fundamental interests of both China and South Korea, and is worthy of being cherished by both China and South Korea. I have noticed that the Gwangju city government has publicly apologized for the Taiwanese misnomination at the Gwangju Biennale and reiterated its commitment to one China. Unfortunately, a very small number of South Korean politicians and social groups are challenging China's red line on the Taiwan-related issue for their own self-interest, hurting the feelings of the Chinese people, and disrupting the improvement and development of Sino-South Korean relations. The Taiwanese authorities are trying to break through in South Korea by any means and collude with the political forces behind them. I would like to emphasize that China is unswerving in its determination to safeguard its core interests and oppose separatist forces of “Taiwan independence.” Attempts by anyone or force to disrupt Sino-South Korean relations by playing the “Taiwan card” will not succeed.
