Anyone interested in VTEX (NYSE:VTEX) should probably be aware that the Co-founder, Geraldo do Carmo Thomaz, recently divested US$427k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of US$3.56 each. However, the silver lining is that the sale only reduced their total holding by 8.8%, so we're hesitant to read anything much into it, on its own.

VTEX Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Co-founder, Mariano Gomide de Faria, for US$483k worth of shares, at about US$3.91 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$3.65. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

VTEX insiders own 43% of the company, currently worth about US$257m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About VTEX Insiders?

Insiders sold VTEX shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. But since VTEX is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
