To meet the growing demand for fuel and electricity, Elon Musk's SpaceX is hiring a gas trader to set up and lead an in-house gas trading team. The position focuses on physical and financial transactions of natural gas, highlighting the key role of autonomous energy supply in supporting the company's core businesses such as semiconductor manufacturing and space exploration. SpaceX announced earlier this month that it plans to build its own gas power plant in Texas to meet the electricity needs of the local giant semiconductor manufacturing plant and Tesla data center. As an implementer of the vertical integration strategy, Musk is building its own energy infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of its business. SpaceX's “Starship” rocket uses ultra-low temperature methane and liquid oxygen as propellants, and has direct fuel requirements for natural gas. Notably, the position is based in Cape Canaveral, Florida or the Texas Interplanetary Site, rather than a traditional energy trading hub, and clearly does not accept remote work. As AI and data center business expansion drive up energy demand, tech giants such as Meta and OpenAI have also recently deployed power trading fields to meet energy challenges. SpaceX has yet to respond on the matter.
