08:58 AM EDT, 08/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK government is looking at several options to exert pressure on Israel following its decision to build homes in the West Bank, including imposing sanctions on trade with Israeli settlements in the area, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband is also reportedly considering an expansion of existing human rights sanctions as well as an explicit endorsement of a nonbinding 2024 opinion by the International Court of Justice that Israel's occupation of Palestine is unlawful. Miliband is expected to outline the UK government's stance toward Israel at the United Nations General Assembly in September, according to the report. The government's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
