South Korean IT giant Kakao submitted regulatory documents for disclosure on August 21. It plans to split its main business, including the popular instant messaging service KakaoTalk, into two entities, KakaoAI and KakaoX to enhance AI capabilities. According to the document, the newly established entity KakaoAI will be responsible for managing KakaoTalk. The goal is to combine AI with advertising and commerce to develop an “AI core company”; the existing Kakao company will change its name to KakaoX and act as an investment department for future growth engines. Kakao's mobile payment services, travel platforms, and entertainment affiliates will continue to be affiliated with KakaoX.
