On the 20th, the reporter learned from Nanhua University that Professor Wei Yuezhou's team directly isolated and obtained the high-purity alpha nuclide lead-212 and its precursor nuclide thorium-228 from rare earth waste, and successfully separated and extracted 158 microcuries of lead-212/bismuth-212 from kilogram rare earth waste in a single batch. The results recently passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal meeting of the “Technical Development of Medical Alpha Nuclides Lead-212 and Thorium-228 Extraction from Monazite Processing Radium Slag” project organized by the China Isotope and Radiation Industry Association. Experts believe that this achievement is expected to promote China's independent supply of medical alpha nuclides and ensure the safety of the nuclear medical industry chain.
