On August 19, Liu Guohong, Party Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and his entourage in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening practical cooperation in the fields of natural resource conservation and sustainable use. Regarding the next step in deepening cooperation, Liu Guohong said that he will push the two sides to renew the Memorandum of Understanding; deepen cooperation on practical projects such as geo-information technology to enable sustainable agriculture, forestry, and fishery development; and actively participate in the implementation of the Food and Agriculture Organization's “Hand in Hand” initiative; share China's ecological protection and restoration experience in arable land protection, comprehensive desertification control, construction of the “Three North” project, marine biodiversity protection, etc.; and expand the space for cooperation between the International Mangrove Forest Center and the Food and Agriculture Organization to jointly promote the protection and restoration of global wetland ecosystems; coordinate and promote Chinese cities Join the “Green Cities” initiative network.
