The Nanjing Public Works Construction Center is responsible for the construction and operation of the Nanjing Jianning Road Yangtze River Tunnel with the participation of the 14th Bureau of China Railway. This tunnel is an oversized shield tunnel that crosses the Yangtze River. It is a key transportation link connecting the main city of Jiangnan in Nanjing and the core area of Jiangbei New Area, marking another important artery for the integrated development of Nanjing across the river. The Jianning Road Yangtze River Tunnel is an integral part of Nanjing's cross-river traffic system. It is located between the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and the Dinghuaimen Yangtze River Tunnel. It is the closest river crossing tunnel to the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. The total length of the project is about 6.8 km, crossing the Yangtze River in the form of a shield tunnel. The shield section is about 2.4 km long and has a maximum depth of 55 meters. It was constructed using two oversized mud-water balance shield machines with an excavation diameter of 15.07 meters.
