On August 12, local time, Venezuela's National Congress President Jorge Rodriguez announced via social media that the CPC government and opposition representatives have concluded the first round of dialogue and reached a number of agreements on issues such as post-earthquake relief and judicial system reform. In terms of post-disaster relief, the two sides agreed to strengthen projects such as housing, electricity, medical care, and rubble removal, and will jointly promote the recovery of Venezuela's international reserve assets stored at the Bank of England, and establish a transparent and traceable audit mechanism to protect the relief and reconstruction needs of people affected by the disaster. In terms of judicial reform, the two sides agreed to begin the judicial system reform process, including promoting amendments to the Supreme Court Organization Law and other laws in the field of administration of justice, updating and expanding the Judicial Nomination Committee, initiating renomination and appointment procedures for Supreme Court judges, and establishing a qualification review body to review the qualifications and conditions of office of Supreme Court candidates. The circular said that the implementation of the relevant agreement will begin in August this year.
