After a brief rebound, the domestic pig market weakened again, and spot and futures prices were under pressure simultaneously. According to the data, as of August 4, the average price of three-yuan pigs sold at home and abroad was 10.33 yuan/kg, down more than 9% from the July 7 high; the average price of pork in the national agricultural products wholesale market fell back to 15.77 yuan/kg. Recently, the price of the main pig futures contract of 2609 also dropped to 10,635 yuan/ton, a new low since listing. Industry insiders believe that concentrated sales on the farming side combined with hot weather have caused pork consumption to enter the traditional low season, and that the phased mismatch between supply and demand is the main reason for the decline in pig prices in this round. At the same time, at the end of the second quarter, the number of breeding sows in the country had dropped to 37.8 million, close to the normal holding target of 37.5 million heads, and the pace of the industry's capacity removal accelerated markedly. However, in the context of continuous improvement in breeding efficiency, the effects of capacity removal still need to be further observed. The short-term pattern of strong supply and weak demand has not been fundamentally reversed, and the steady rebound in pig prices still needs to wait for improved terminal demand and further implementation of production capacity reduction signals.
