For Trek 2000 International Insiders, Selling US$2.6m Of Shares Was A Smart Move

Despite a 23% gain in Trek 2000 International Ltd's (SGX:5AB) stock price this week, shareholders shouldn't let up. The fact that insiders chose to dispose of US$2.6m worth of stock in the past 12 months even though prices were relatively low could be indicative of some anticipated weakness.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Trek 2000 International

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the insider, Chye Hock Sim, sold S$2.6m worth of shares at a price of S$0.12 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (S$0.29). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was 79% of Chye Hock Sim's holding. Chye Hock Sim was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders.
