Coldcard, a well-known Bitcoin hardware wallet, was revealed to have a random number generation flaw, causing a large number of offline “cold wallet” generated mnemonic words to be systematically deduced. Analyst data shows that as of August 3, the attackers had stolen more than 1,755 bitcoins from about 5,000 affected wallets, which was about 110 million US dollars based on the market value at the time. The device manufacturer Coinkite has confirmed the vulnerability and released a fixed firmware, urging users to update it promptly. Coldcards have long been considered one of the safest ways to store cryptocurrencies. According to industry data, the total number of global cryptocurrency thefts in the first half of this year reached 972 million US dollars, and the total number of hacking incidents reached 207, a record high for half a year in history.
